Baring it all!

I finally broke down and shaved Bunny. I used a 7 blade, but with her matts, I had to go even closer and by the time I was done, she was naked!
She seemed a bit embarrassed and it hasn't been hot enough for her to enjoy the benefits.
I have to say; it isn't my favorite look, but it was necessary.
I took the pom-pom off her tail, and the ears were thinned as they looked out of balance.
She should look good again by October!

Luv this blog, found you sheltie one and now found the poodles have their own blog too. Cool:-)

Thanks Christine! We are having a lot of fun with this breed. I made this blog as the Poodles were taking over the other. Since Poodles are new to us, and there is so much to learn; I am doing it publicly! My mistakes are laid out for all to see! ;-)

Cheers, Kim

Oh kim , i am so sorry that you had to shave Bunny. she was an inspiration to my friends that have the poodle in Portugal. Well now you have to take many pic to Barbie for them to see how nice you are able to keep your poodles.

The good thing is that hair grows so Bunny will be with a lot of coat in a while.

Kisses

She looks wonderful Kim. I like when I can see what is under all the hair. You can feel around but never really know until you shave it off. Now she can have fun and you don't have to stress about matting.

Rui: I figured it was best for Bunny...I worked away for several weeks, but never seemed to get ahead. I didn't want to put her through the process any more. This way I have more time to care for the lawn, the Shelties and Barbie's coat (which is getting longer everyday).

Sherri: You definitely can see what is underneath! I was surprised how small she was, and since she isn't a great eater, you can see her hip bones! She resembles a whippet with curls! I think in a few weeks it will look much better, and more like velvet. Right now she looks dirty as you can see the dark pigment of her skin, and she has very little hair...so the result is a grey dog!

Well she's still beautiful...even naked! Of course they look scrawny but it will grow back. Have you thought about shaving her ears, in German-trim style? Might look nice with the short clip for now. Thanks Natalie! I'm still getting used to the look...and the feel of her new coat! It is much coarser, more lamb like.

I like the terrier trim and I started to shave her ear hair off, and when I got half way, I thought it already looked better. I have had setters in the past, and this reminds me more of setter ears!

Ah yes, that's right you had Gordon Setters. I had one for 12 years... had to put her down last summer and I've been missing her since. The Poodle is such a change in temperament...I love it! I'll always miss her though, might get another one at some point. My relatives breed them - www.ricecreekkennels.com

Coat change is a battle though - one I'm currently fighting with my girl!

Say, I saw a post earlier about you needing to find a new home for Bunny, but now it's gone...did you change your mind or find her a new home?

Hi Natalie,

You had a Gordon? They are wonderful dogs.

The Poodles are such fun; smart, silly and very affectionate.

Bunny is still here. I have to really watch her around the puppies, both the babies and any of the young ones. She has a tendency to dive at their neck and shoulder area. She ruined one of my show hopefuls coats by diving and pulling hair, and is bullying two others. So if the right home came along, I'd consider it, but I am very bonded to her, so we'll try to manage the problem. She doesn't go out with the young Shelties, but goes out in the morning and then right back in the house. She's lying in her donut bed behind me in the office right now. She's fine with the older girls, so hopefully one day we can break her of her bad habits.

Yes, I did have a Gordon, and she was a great dog. She was really big for a female, about 27" was my best measurement. She was very driven and had more of the high-strung, stubborn temperament, but she was a lover and wouldn't hurt a fly. In fact, she would play with my rabbit, and the worst thing she'd do is lick her all over!

Bunny sounds a bit like my Addie! She is still all puppy even at a year old and gets so excited around other dogs. She is too much for most of them and just makes them angry, which is why I am happy when we find another dog that really wants to play with her! Good luck with Bunny, it sounds like you can make it work.

I think that Bunny is stunning in whatever trim you have her in. I particular love this picture for its artistic quality of the shadows and highlights.
